MT Rehearal Snow Queen 20/11/12

Today in class we went though the Snow Queen with only a couple of stops in the last scene to sort it out, we also agreed over the production roles for everyone (mine are make up and hair and set) and looked back and descussed todays rehearcal and then made some set ( i started on the Crowns for the King, Queen and Princess in the castle scene).

Pointers on what needs work and what works =
  • Gerda and Kai's relationship needs to be shown more, it is not shown how strong thier relationship is for Gerda to travel across the world to get him back.

maybe add another scene of them playing tag or a game together or one giving another friendship braclet ? just showing that their very close friends
  • The words 'stab' and 'dead' can not be used in snow queen, that needs to be cut out

using a different word simblizing the same meaning, children theatre needs to stay inercent.
  • Need to show relationship with family (Granma and Kai)

  • more discribtion in every scene

6 scenes in every scene
  • flower kids dreams remembering that they had a family, the flower women is not their real mum, can go further with that story thats why they help Gerda, from the audince point of view they help Gerda for no reason bit confusoing

When the flower women is out the room or anyway the two flower kids can have a confosation about their dreams and remember their real run they can agree about running away before she comes back and when they free Gerda they could run off too ?
  • Kai remembers Gerda, starts talking about a girl, kind and pritty he misses her but doesnt quit understand who she is, he rememebers and says to the snow queen, the Snow Queen could get gelous like a girlfriend when their partner talks about an ex, 'that name!, never say that name again!'.
  • Castle and robber scene (robbie girl and princess) same chractor (shouty)

Change the Princess to a softer chractor, give them different emotions, personalty.
  • King = relationship with crow, why do they have a crow, why does the crow stay there, has he had a bad past ? why does the crow serve the Royals ?
HOW
 King could have a confosation with Crow, Crow doesnt want to do something, King reminds him that they feed him and that they took him in when he was not looked after (bad hyome before) maybe the Snow Queen destroyed this home she frose a tree so wildlife could not grow the crows nest was not good to live in anymore it was icey ? so the Royals took him in if he served them.
  • Me = more to do in castle scene, i did not get a say and just stood there

speak more, add another scene showing why king and queen are controlling.
  • Music = in the castle scene is a bit orckod the mood changes to the princess dress is ripped everyones angry to happy music ?

Change music or others leave set whilst Gerda mends the dress
  • Orckod dance whilst music is played in castle scene

Change it to something else maybe to sorting out the castle for party
  • needs more menipulation in snow queen scnenes towards Kai, she wants Kai to stay she dont want him to leave

she could say ' No! Dont go! have another ice bun'  its humous too. 'Ice' perfect
  • robbers scene = why do they cage reindeer
HOW
They might know that the reindeer is magical and can free all frozen, they think theyd make alot of money selling him so they cage him and plan to sell.
  • Robber girl that does not want to be there, why is she so useless at what she does, why is she there ? why do the others not like her ?

She could tell her story to reindeer and Gerda, that they stoil her from her home ? she has no home they home her if she steils for them, that she does not want to rob she thinks stealing is bad and she does not want to be a bad person adds a learning lession to the production the kids learn that steailing is bad.
  • King and Queens relationship ?

add another scene of them two happy ? talking to each other about their daughter one unsure about the arranged marrigered, their daughter does not want too, and the other asuring that they need to do this after everything theyve built for a perfect futher for their daughter it needs to be aranged otherwise shell marry a bum and be poor and go down in class ? something showing why they are controling parents they want to protect her or maybe their just stuck up.
  • dance bit of the gossipers = good, funny, adds phisical movements to the production
  • timing of Gerda coming in needs to be sorted out

give her and Crow a que to come in 'STRANGER DANGER, WHOS THAT!?'
  • The Gossipers scene adds a build up to the Fin Man scene, who is this Fin Man ? are these rumoprs true ?
WHY this was added
tto add a build up to the Fin Man and to make the audience want to knowm, make them interested
  • Reindeer = why does he keep running off
HOW
Gerda could say as they get to Snow Queen castle gates ' i dont want you hurt Reindeer please go', or there could be a past story of the snow queen turning a magical man into a reindeer so he could not destroy her, he could be scared of the snow queen and run off or he could keep watch (hes told)
  • Crow = wimp humourous for kids = this works
  • last scene = in this lession we slowly went though this scene and sorted out spacing builded it to the snow queen by Gerda and Crow looking at all the frozen kids faces saying they look scared and ow is this Kai ,, no just some kid. and we added that Kai sees them enter the ground but is not seen and goes off and tells the snow queen some introders are coming letting the snow queen informed that Gerda is here.
  • Posific Refrences names of rooms
  • Granma telling the story to the audince
HOW AND MY OPINION
i think it good it works with the story and interacts with the kids, childrens theatre gets kids introlved (shouting, dancing, claping, talking to the audince) to keep them enterained reading the story to Kai, Gerda and the audince brings them into the show.

WHY was todays rehearal important ?
It is close to the performance now every rehearal matters, we looked back on our mini performance to the small audience and we know what works what bits they liked (laughted at), the bits that were confusing or boring to the audience we can change it before our actual performance, we have over looked out what works in the performance and what does not what needs changing and ways we can change it, looking out for props that are needed (invisible cups) and scenes that can deepen in detail (6 scene's) and story (past, chractors that do not stand out as much).
