25/10/12 MT Work shop Lesson Singing

Musical Theatre Work Shop Lesson Singing
25/10/12

Today in our Work Shop Lesson we did Singing,
We started off with laying on the floor and doing our breathing controls, We breathed in with our hands on our stomach and was told to feel the stomach rising up as we brathed in (we did this to know how using our diaphram feels) laying on the floor rising our stomach up is using the diaphrame. We then instead of breathing out air we released it with humming and then 'hiss', 'lar', 'ssh', and simular sounds we did this to warm up our diaphram in sound, we then in stages got up at each stage we praticed what we did on the floor as we got up we found it harded (we did this in stages to make us understand its harder standing up singing, you use your diaphram more and it made us understand the use of the diaphram).
Standing up we sung 'lar' and 'ooo' going up and down scales like a wavey train track (we then were told to yawn) we yawn to take in more oxygen, in singing we use the yawn technic to open our jaw, this allows more projection in our singing we were then told to use this technic whilst doing our 'lar's', and 'oo's' this made us project more.
We then read out loud together the lyics to Sweeney Tod, we then hummed the song to the pinao, and added the words, we added chractorisation by emthsizing on the the contanits, this made the song more spooky (because it was a dark song) it added abit evilness.
in small groups people stood up and sung the song (they were told to pretend to be scared, prevend they were angry, pretend they were singing to a baby est) this made each performance different in chractor and projection.

  • Todays lesson showed us how to use our Diaphram and what differance it makes
  • Projection through the Yawning technic (opening the jaw)
  • We Learnt a song from Sweeny Tod
  • How to add chractorisation to Singing

WHY
breathing exercises = to warm up our voiceal chords and to understand how to use our diaphram what differance it feels whilst we sing to sing properly.
'Lar' and 'Ssh' understanding of releasing our air held slowly though breathing helping us to hold a note or word for longer and to warm up our diaphram in sound
getting up slowly helps us to use our diaphram more when were standing
yawn = we yawn to take more oxygen in singing we use a yawn in warm up to open the jaw warm up the jaw this allows more projection when we singing
in small groups different emotions = to change chractor in our voices in singing chractorisation
